Itinerary

DAY 1:

Puerto Maldonado - Amazon Garden Lodge - Kayaking Monkey island - Search of Caimans & Capibaras

Upon arrival you will be greeted by our AMAZON GARDEN LODGE representative.

We will visit the Plaza de Armas, where we will take some photos, where we will appreciate the fusion of two important rivers: Madre de Dios and Tambopata.

We will embark on a 40-minute boat trip from Puerto Triunfo to reach our Amazon Garden Lodge, sailing along the Madre de Dios River in a typical boat found in the Amazon jungle.

When we arrive we will have a welcome meeting where we will enjoy a fruit juice from the jungle, then we will take a kayak tour and visit Monkey Island.

For the safety of your trip, there will always be a boat accompanying the group. We will be able to immerse ourselves in the waters of the Madre de Dios River.

In front of PERU AMAZON GARDEN LODGE, we can see an island inhabited by a group of monkeys accustomed to human presence. Here we can get up close and feed the monkeys, in a charming experience.

Then we will return to our Amazon Garden Lodge accommodation to rest and have some refreshing drinks with stunning views of the Amazon.

At night there is the possibility of seeing other nocturnal animals such as birds and capybaras, which happen to be the largest rodents in the world.

Finally, we will enjoy a satisfying dinner and have a restful night.

At 8:00 am our 5-Day Tambopata Tour to Lake Sandoval begins. We will take a short 20-minute boat ride along the Madre de Dios River that takes us to the entrance of the lake.

When we arrive we will take a walk to the Lake Sandoval checkpoint to register tickets, since it is located within the Tambopata National Reserve. Then we will take a 3 km walk that lasts approximately 45 minutes, here we will appreciate wildlife such as: birds, monkeys, rodents, arachnids, insects, reptiles and amphibians.

When we reach the shores of the lake we will take a refreshing swim in its crystalline waters and enjoy a typical jungle lunch.

We board a rowboat to explore the lake, searching for various species of birds such as hoatzines, cormorants, anhingas, and the elusive river otters, known as the highlight of Lake Sandoval.

In the afternoon, after prior agreement with your guide, we will leave the lake to return to the shore of the Madre de Dios River, where a boat is waiting to transport you to the AMAZON GARDEN LODGE. For those interested, an overnight hike is available, followed by dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

Daylight Jungel Walk & Native Family Visit

8:00 a.m. Morning Breakfat, daylight jungle walk and vist of Botanical Garden known as Chacra. In our fast-paced modern society, it’s easy to overlook the existence of ancient cultures and their traditions.

This unique experience offers a glimpse into the customs of indigenous communities, providing a wonderful opportunity to directly connect with a family rooted in ancient traditions of warriors and hunters.

Additionally, it allows us to support them financially by purchasing some of the handmade products they create.

Traditional Fishing at Tambopata Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick 5 Days

Later in the day, we will continue with our next activity. We will board a boat and navigate to a ravine where we will engage in a rustic fishing experience, targeting fish such as catfish, maiden, sardines, or piranhas.

Return to the lodge, enjoy dinner, and rest.

our trip day begins at 8:30 in the morning at the AMAZON GARDEN LODGE. We will embark on a 3-hour tour, 1 hours by boat to Puerto Maldonado and 2 hour-long drive along the interoceanic highway, followed by a less congested road that leads us to the banks of the Tambopata River.

There, our boat and driver will be waiting for us to continue our journey by river, heading upstream for approximately 30 minutes until we reach our Lodge,

During the boat ride, we will have the opportunity to spot various riverside birds, capybaras, and white caimans.

Upon arrival at the Lodge, we will be greeted with a welcome drink and a brief overview of the services available during our stay. After settling into our respective rooms, we can take a walk to explore and familiarize ourselves with the surroundings.

Following a satisfying lunch, we will have a short break before embarking on a guided walk through a primary forest, which is home to ancient trees. Along the way, we will learn about the significant economic activities in our region, such as agriculture, mining, logging, chestnut collection (Brazil nut), and ecotourism.

Additionally, we will have the opportunity to observe monkeys and other mammals in their natural habitats.

As the sun begins to set, we will return to the Lodge to retrieve our flashlights. We will then head out to observe alligators, capybaras, and possibly some felines that may be near the river, actively seeking their prey at night.

Following a satisfying dinner, for those still eager for adventure, we can embark on a short night walk to search for insects, arachnids, tarantulas, and, with luck, some snakes, armadillos, night monkeys, or tapirs in the vicinity of the Lodge.

This day we will rise early in the morning and embark on our upstream journey at 4:30 am, accompanied by a delightful cup of coffee.

The tranquil boat ride will grant us exclusive access to the breathtaking sunrise as we navigate through the magnificent landscape of the Tambopata National Reserve.

With a stroke of luck, there is a 20% possibility of encountering a jaguar or even an anaconda along the riverbanks.

Upon reaching our destination, we will be treated to a captivating spectacle of parrots and macaws, where we will witness firsthand why these birds, along with numerous other mammals, rely on the clay from the nearby wall as a vital part of their daily diet throughout the year.

This extraordinary display will captivate us from approximately 6:00 am to 11:00 am. We will savor a delicious breakfast overlooking the Collpa Chuncho (Macaws Clay Lick)

After concluding our activities here, we will make a brief visit to the checkpoint, where we can explore a small museum to enhance our knowledge. Subsequently, we will proceed to our accommodation to enjoy a satisfying lunch and take a well-deserved rest.

Later, we will have the opportunity to visit the Quebrada el Gato waterfall, where we can indulge in a rejuvenating bath and learn about various crops cultivated in the fertile land of Madre de Dios.

As the afternoon approaches, we will embark on a twenty-minute canoe ride downstream, followed by a two-hour truck journey back to Puerto Maldonado.
