Itinerary

DAY 1:

ARRIVAL IN LIMA

Upon arriving in Lima, the capital of Peru, you will be greeted by our representative at Jorge Chavez International Airport. You’ll be privately transferred to your selected hotel, where you can settle in for the night and rest after your flight.

Today, you’ll explore Lima, known as the City of Kings. The guided tour starts with a visit to the city’s most famous landmarks, including the historical center, San Martin Square, and the iconic Plaza de Armas. You’ll visit the stunning Convent of San Francisco, renowned for its intricate catacombs. The tour then moves to the modern district of Miraflores, where you’ll take in sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean from the picturesque Park of Love. The guided tour lasts approximately four hours. Afterward, enjoy a leisurely afternoon in the city.

After breakfast, you will be picked up early from your hotel and transferred to the airport for your domestic flight to Cusco (11,152 feet / 3,399 meters). Upon arriving in Cusco, you’ll be transferred to your selected hotel.

Later, embark on a tour of Cusco’s most remarkable attractions. Start with a visit to Plaza San Cristóbal, where you’ll get a panoramic view of the city. Then, explore the vibrant San Pedro Market to experience local culture and products. The tour continues with a visit to the Temple of Koricancha, a site of Inca worship, and the nearby Church of Santo Domingo. Stroll through the artisan district of San Blas, and visit the famous twelve-angled stone on Hatun Rumiyoc Street. You will also explore Cusco’s Plaza de Armas and visit the nearby Inca ruins, including Sacsayhuamán, Qenqo, Puca Pucará, and Tambomachay, all of which showcase the impressive architecture of the Incas. Overnight in Cusco.

Explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas (9,186 feet / 2,800 meters), a region known for its fertile lands and rich history. Begin the tour with a visit to the town of Pisaq (9,514 feet / 2,900 meters) to explore its archaeological site and local market. From there, you’ll travel through the scenic towns of Coya, Lamay, and Calca, following the winding Vilcanota River. Stop in Urubamba (9,420 feet / 2,870 meters) for a buffet lunch (not included), then continue to Ollantaytambo (9,160 feet / 2,792 meters) for a guided tour of the well-preserved Inca ruins. The day’s journey offers breathtaking views of the Andes and insight into the valley’s historical importance. Overnight in the Sacred Valley.

This morning, board a train to Aguas Calientes (6,693 feet / 2,040 meters), the town that serves as the gateway to Machu Picchu. The journey is considered one of the most beautiful in South America, offering spectacular views of lush forests, towering mountains, and the flowing Vilcanota River. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you’ll be transferred to your selected hotel for an overnight stay.

Begin the day with a bus ride up to the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu (7,972 feet / 2,430 meters). After a 20-minute ascent, you’ll arrive at the base of Huayna Picchu (8,920 feet / 2,720 meters), also known as Wayna Picchu. Climbing this iconic peak offers breathtaking panoramic views of Machu Picchu from above, with access restricted to 200 visitors each day.

After conquering Huayna Picchu, enjoy a guided tour of Machu Picchu’s key sites, including the Temple of the Moon, the Great Cavern, the Temple of the Condor, and the Sacred Sun Dial. You’ll also visit the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), a stunning viewpoint often featured in photographs of the site. In the afternoon, return to Aguas Calientes for some free time before catching the train back to Cusco, where you’ll be transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Travel along the famous “Route of the Sun” from Cusco to Puno (12,556 feet / 3,827 meters), stopping at several fascinating sites along the way. Your first stop is the Church of San Pedro in Andahuaylillas (10,010 feet / 3,051 meters), often referred to as the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas” due to its stunning frescoes and gold decorations.

Next, visit the Raqchi ruins (10,597 feet / 3,225 meters), home to the Temple of Wiracocha, a massive structure dedicated to the Andean deity. Afterward, enjoy a buffet lunch in Sicuani (11,654 feet / 3,552 meters), surrounded by scenic highlands. Continue to La Raya Pass (14,232 feet / 4,338 meters), the highest point of the journey, and finally visit the Pucará Museum (12,795 feet / 3,900 meters) to see ancient sculptures and artifacts. Arrive in Puno in the late afternoon and transfer to your selected hotel for an overnight stay.

Today, explore Lake Titicaca (12,507 feet / 3,812 meters), the highest navigable lake in the world. Your boat excursion begins with a visit to the Uros Floating Islands, where the indigenous Uros people have lived for centuries on islands made entirely of reeds. Learn about their traditional way of life before continuing to Taquile Island. Once on Taquile, you’ll hike along a narrow path to reach the main square, where you’ll have time to explore before enjoying a locally prepared lunch featuring fresh trout from the lake. Return to Puno in the afternoon for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, transfer to Juliaca Airport for your flight to Lima. Upon arrival in Lima, you will be picked up and transferred to your selected hotel for your last night in Peru.

We provide our porters for free with: jackets, sun hats, warm hats, shirts, pants, hiking boots, comfortable travel bags, canteens, back support belts, sleeping bags, mattresses, and travel insurance. All are hired from isolated communities, improving their economic circumstances and supporting the education of their children. We treat all our porters like family!
