Itinerary

DAY 1:

ARRIVAL IN LIMA

Upon landing in Lima, the vibrant capital of Peru, you’ll be warmly welcomed by our representative at Jorge Chavez International Airport. You’ll be transferred privately to your selected hotel for a relaxing night.

  • Meals: None.

Discover Lima, known as the “City of Kings,” with a guided tour that covers the city’s most important landmarks. Start in the historic center, visiting iconic sites like San Martin Square, the beautiful Plaza de Armas (505 ft or 154 m), and the renowned Convent of San Francisco with its famous catacombs. The tour then takes you to Miraflores, a modern district, where you’ll stop at the Park of Love, offering panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. This comprehensive tour lasts about four hours.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch.

In the morning, you’ll be picked up and taken to the airport for your flight to Cusco (11,152 ft or 3,399 m). After arriving in Cusco, you’ll be transferred to your hotel before heading out to explore the city. First, visit Plaza San Cristóbal (11,125 ft or 3,391 m), where you’ll enjoy a view of the entire city. Continue to the lively San Pedro Market, followed by a visit to the Temple of Koricancha, known for its impressive Inca architecture.

Next, see the Church of Santo Domingo, built on the ancient Incan foundations. In the artisan district of San Blas, you’ll stroll down Hatun Rumiyoc Street to admire the famous twelve-angled stone. The tour also includes a stop at the Plaza de Armas (11,152 ft or 3,399 m), the heart of Incan Cusco, and a visit to the magnificent Cathedral.

Your day continues with a visit to Sacsayhuamán (12,142 ft or 3,701 m), an impressive fortress with sweeping views. Other archaeological sites include Qenqo, a mysterious religious complex, Puca Pucará (12,631 ft or 3,850 m), a military structure, and Tambomachay (12,139 ft or 3,700 m), known for its intricate stonework and water features.

  • Meals: Breakfast.

The journey to Machu Picchu begins with a scenic train ride to Aguas Calientes (6,693 ft or 2,040 m), the town closest to the ancient Inca site. This breathtaking trip through the mountains offers stunning views of the lush vegetation and towering peaks of the region.

Machu Picchu (7,972 ft or 2,430 m) remained hidden from the world for centuries due to its remote and inaccessible location. Aguas Calientes, situated down in the valley next to the Vilcanota River, is only a short distance from the ruins. Though it’s close by, the road between the town and Machu Picchu is steep and winding, with a bus journey of about 20 minutes. On the train, you’ll relax in plush seats, enjoy wide windows for taking in the views, and be served a selection of refreshing drinks made from local fruits and herbs. Overnight in Aguas Calientes.

  • Meals: Breakfast.

Today, you’ll visit the legendary Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu, followed by a hike up Wayna Picchu (8,920 ft or 2,720 m), also known as “Young Peak.” Access to Wayna Picchu is limited to 200 people daily. The Incas carved a path up the mountain, where temples and terraces were built at the summit. This peak, which towers about 1,180 ft (360 m) above Machu Picchu, is said to have been the residence of the high priest and sacred virgins.

Each morning, the high priest would lead a small group from Wayna Picchu to Machu Picchu to mark the start of a new day. You’ll also explore the Temple of the Moon, located lower on the mountain, and visit other notable sites like the Great Cavern, the Temple of the Condor, the Temple of the Three Windows, and the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), where the sun shines brilliantly through the stone passage at sunrise.

After touring the Citadel, return to Cusco by train, with transfers back to your hotel for the night.

  • Meals: Breakfast.

This morning, you’ll transfer to the airport for a flight from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado (600 ft or 183 m), gateway to the Tambopata Rainforest. Upon arrival, you’ll be picked up and taken to the harbor for a motorboat ride along the Madre de Dios River. As you navigate through the lush rainforest, you might spot capybaras, caimans, turtles, herons, and other wildlife.

Upon arriving at your jungle lodge, you’ll be welcomed with a refreshing tropical juice and escorted to your bungalow. After lunch, you’ll embark on a guided walk to Cocha Caiman, a small lagoon home to black caimans and white caimans. As evening approaches, you’ll witness a stunning sunset over the Amazon. Later, enjoy a delicious dinner at the lodge and spend some free time in the bar, playing board games or sipping your favorite drinks.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Wake up to the sounds of the rainforest, including the distinctive call of howler monkeys. After breakfast, set out on a trek through the forest, crossing streams and observing a rich variety of plants and animals. Eventually, you’ll reach the pristine waters of Lake Apu Victor, surrounded by marshes and towering trees.

Climb the observation tower to take in the panoramic views, where you can spot macaws, toucans, herons, and even the elusive giant otter if you’re lucky. After a hearty lunch back at the lodge, you’ll visit Monkey Island, located just five minutes away by boat. This lush island is home to various species of monkeys, including capuchins and spider monkeys, as well as other wildlife like sloths and coatis. As the day ends, enjoy another stunning sunset before heading back to the lodge for dinner.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

After a final night in the jungle, enjoy a hearty breakfast before heading back to Puerto Maldonado. You’ll catch a flight back to Lima (505 ft or 154 m), where you’ll be picked up at the airport and transferred to your hotel for your final night in the capital.
