Itinerary

DAY 1:

CUSCO CITY TOUR

Upon your arrival in Cusco, you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your accommodation. After a brief introduction, you’ll have the morning to relax and acclimatize. In the afternoon, explore Cusco, a city showcasing a blend of Andean and Spanish influences. Visit the Santo Domingo Convent, which stands on the foundations of the Koricancha, the ancient Inca Temple of the Sun. Continue to Sacsayhuamán, renowned for its impressive military architecture overlooking the city. The tour will also include Qenqo, Puca Pucará, and Tambomachay, all located to the northeast of Cusco. Return to your hotel by early evening.

Begin your day at 7:30am with a pickup from your Cusco hotel in a private van. Our first destination is Pisac, where we’ll stop at the Taray viewpoint for panoramic views of the Urubamba Valley and its traditional farming communities. Continue to the Pisac archaeological site to explore its impressive Inca cemetery and terraced fields. After a brief visit to the vibrant Pisac market, we’ll head to Urubamba for lunch.

Next, we visit Moray, known as the “Inca Greenhouse,” a marvel of agricultural engineering with its concentric terraces designed to create different microclimates. Continue to the town of Maras to see the pre-Inca salt mines, where salt has been harvested since ancient times. Finally, travel to Ollantaytambo, an Inca village with well-preserved ruins. After dinner, board the train to Aguas Calientes, departing at 7:04pm and arriving at 8:45pm.

The highlight of your tour awaits today! After an early breakfast, take one of the first buses to Machu Picchu to catch the sunrise. Experience the awe-inspiring site with a two-hour guided tour, covering the main sectors: agricultural, residential, and religious. After exploring, return to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included) and enjoy some free time for shopping or visiting local attractions.

Board the Expedition train at 2:55pm or 3:20pm for the return journey to Ollantaytambo, following the scenic Urubamba River. On the way, you might catch a glimpse of Wiñay Wayna. Upon arrival at Ollantaytambo, a driver will transport you back to your Cusco hotel, expected by 7:00pm.

  • If you’ve booked additional hikes to Huayna Picchu Mountain, this will be self-guided.

Valid Student ID for Classic Inca Trail Hike and Machu Picchu

To qualify for the student discount on Inca Trail Permits, travelers must meet the following requirements:

  • Age Limit: Students must be 25 years old or younger at the time of entering the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu. Those over 25 years old cannot enter as a student.
  • ID Requirements: The student ID must include:
    • The name of the university
    • The student’s name and photo
    • A valid expiration date
  • ISIC CARD: This card type is no longer valid anymore

Invalid Student IDs for the Inca Trail Discount

Student IDs will not be accepted for the discount under the following conditions:

  • The traveler is older than 25
  • The ID is expired
  • The ID does not have an expiration date
  • ISIC cards are not valid for obtaining the student discount for Inca Trail permits.

Hiking with “INCAS EXPEDITIONS” is an uplifting experience, we prioritize your comfort and enjoyment throughout the hike, and you will have the assistance of our porters. You will interact with local people, explore incredible sites, and rediscover ancient Inca ancestral towns. Our porters carry your gear, prepare your meals, set up our camp tents, and take care of you while you relax.

We provide our porters for free with: jackets, sun hats, warm hats, shirts, pants, hiking boots, comfortable travel bags, canteens, back support belts, sleeping bags, mattresses, and travel insurance. All are hired from isolated communities, improving their economic circumstances and supporting the education of their children. We treat all our porters like family!

  • Our tents: Enjoy a good rest in our 4-season EUREKA Timberline tents. Our tents are for 4 people, but only 2 sleep in each, providing space for greater comfort and storage. They have a small vestibule for boots and poles.
  • Our foam mats: Separate and insulate from the ground.
  • Air mattresses: Available for rent for $20 USD.
  • Kitchen and dining tents: Used as a meeting room during meals, ideal for relaxing and chatting.
  • Tables and chairs: In the dining area, adapted to the day’s weather.
  • Travel bags: Provided the night before the trek.
  • Others: Pillows, rain covers for backpacks, survival shirts, and chemical toilets are provided during the trek.

Briefing:
A pre-trek briefing will be held at 6:00 pm the night before your trek at our office, located at Calle Punacchupan 196, office 201 (second floor)

 

Luggage Storage:
You can store your main luggage at our office or your hotel during the Machu Picchu Tour Package.

Booking the Tour:
To book your Machu Picchu Tour Package, complete our booking form by clicking on BOOK NOW on our homepage or follow this link.

Please provide the following information for each participant:

  • Full name (as on your passport)
  • Gender
  • Passport number
  • Date of Birth (dd/mm/yyyy)
  • Nationality

A deposit of $200.00 per person is required to purchase entrance tickets to Machu Picchu and train tickets. You can make this deposit via VISA or PAYPAL on our homepage or booking page.

Balance Payment:
To avoid high credit card fees in Peru, you can pay in cash (US dollars or Peruvian soles) at our office. Alternatively, you may pay online via VISA or PAYPAL, though a 5.5% service fee will apply. For PAYPAL payments, use our email address: incasexpeditions@gmail.com.

Changing Departure Dates:
Once tickets are purchased, changes are not allowed due to government regulations. Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable. Please note that the deposit is non-refundable in case of cancellation.

Passport Requirements:
You must bring your original passport, matching the number provided for your bookings. The rangers will check this at Machu Picchu, and the train company will verify it before boarding. If you are renewing your passport or changing your name, send us your old passport details to secure your permit. We can update the information for a $25 fee per person. Bring both old and new passports to Peru if you choose not to pay this fee.

Failing to present both passports may result in being denied entry to Machu Picchu or the train. They have strict verification policies.

 

Tipping

While tipping is not mandatory, it is greatly appreciated if you are satisfied with the services provided. Though it may not be customary in your country, tipping holds significant value for those who have cared for you throughout the tour. It encourages high-quality service and is a common practice across many INCA EXPEDITIONS destinations. You are welcome to tip according to your assessment of the service quality and the duration of the tour. Remember, tipping is entirely voluntary and should only be given in response to exceptional service.
